Katie White

Happy Camper

Katie graduated from Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia and earned a master’s degree in community agency counseling from Montevallo University in Montevallo, Alabama.

She has been at ACED for almost 12 years and has worked with preteen and teenage girls for more than 20 years in various ways. She was an English teacher, coached field hockey and lacrosse, a long time summer-camp counselor, working in the community programs Girls’ Inc and Girls On the Run, as well as the director of youth programs on a cruise ship. The cruise ship, Katie says, was by far the craziest job she’s ever had.

Katie works diligently to coordinate all adolescent programming and services for ACED’s adolescent clients. She works alongside parents, families and the extended community of all adolescent clients at ACED. She works directly with the client’s school system providing education and outreach to ensure each client’s academic needs are carefully coordinated and met. She is currently completing her advanced Family Based Therapy (FBT) Training, and proud to soon be among the first Southeastern Certified FBT therapists.

She is an avid Wheelhouse Academy member where she excels in challenging herself to be the best, strongest version of herself and is loving every minute of raising up her two rescue cats, Meg and Skye who might be a little feral.

Although her preferred nickname is Katie, others call her Minion, Sparky, and Katie Lou. Whatever the name, Katie is a ball of energy who loves nature and traveling — enough to scuba dive with sharks and hike the Swiss Alps.

What I find most rewarding in working with clients is witnessing the moments they learn to love themselves, even on their most difficult days. Its a joy when clients dare to give themselves grace, accepting that life is not always easy or perfect - but if you find compassion for yourself, and learn from your mistakes you will be a stronger person at the end of the day.
